Most jewelers and gemologists are familiar with the main staples in the gem world which include ruby, sapphire, emerald, quartz, and garnet. However, there are a wide variety of gems that many gemologists may not have exposure to nor the opportunity to examine in person. In this lecture and hands-on lab, participants will explore the microworld of rare and unusual gems including enstatite, danburite, kornerupine, sapphirine, and more.
